We are ordinary men and women who experience a normal variation in human development - known as transsexualism. We offer support, information and contact to men and women who are affirming their authentic selves through medical treatment and social transition across Australia and New Zealand. The network exists primarily for men and women who experience the biological intersex condition known as transsexualism, or Harry Benjamin Syndrome.1 We welcome members who understand themselves to be transgender (a different situation to the biological variation of transsexualism). We already have members who have come into the network to explore their options for transition and have discovered no need to pursue medical solutions to their discomfort. Some of us are men and women who are at the beginning of our journey, some of us have completed transition, others have affirmed their true selves and want to support others, while others are here just to stay in the loop. Our network welcomes partners, family members, friends and supporters across Australia and New Zealand as well.
1. The brain is a sexually differentiated organ in the body and important factor in determining a person's gender identity (see brain-sex). That's not to claim that we are pAIS, AIS, CAH, Klinefelter's or any of the many other variations in sexual formation. Men and women with ts have been classified as intersex for 85 years. |
